An Absolutely Romantic Chinese & Western Wedding In Spain

Would you ever book a wedding venue, site unseen? Well, when the destination & location is as gorgeous, romantic and perfect as Costa Brava’s Castell D’Emporda, we think you might.

Anna & Hadley wanted to treat their nearest and dearest to a lavish & festive wedding weekend – with guests all staying on the grounds of their wedding parties, excursions to local fun and a traditional & succulent Peking Duck. Castell D’Emporda checked all the boxes for their dream wedding, and with the help of their expert planner, tied in so many Chinese & Western details to their decor – and even Chinese lion dancers!

We imagine once you’ve scrolled through these gorgeous photos by Tali Photography, you’ll be asking how you can have a wedding as gorgeous as this. Well, Bride Anna has some advice: “Everything will be fine as long as you have the right dress and right person to walk down the aisle to.” With dramatic & royal-worthy Galia Lahav gowns and a beautiful traditional Chinese dress, we’re sure Anna knows what she’s talking about.

Our Love Story

We met at a dinner party in our friend’s apartment in New York City two and a half years ago. My husband told me it was love at first sight for him. He convinced me to go on a trip with him to St. Lucia shortly after we started dating. After we climbed Mt Piton, the guide gave us a certificate addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Harris. We both laughed it off. But my husband has kept it ever since that day.

He proposed one Saturday morning in bed! I woke up and saw him holding a ring with tears in his eyes. He told me I grabbed the ring and put it on my finger without saying yes. But I am pretty sure I did.

The Chinese & Western Wedding Styles

For the Chinese wedding on Friday, we incorporated a lot of red, gold, and berry elements to create a festive backdrop for lion dances and an alfresco family-style banquet. For the western wedding, we had a rustic chic theme with a mauve, blush, ivory and gold palette with a lot of hanging greenery. We wanted our guests to feel like they are at a Spanish courtyard.

The Venue

We wanted a destination wedding in Europe and a venue where we can accommodate all of our guests on-site and have Peking duck for the Chinese banquet. Castell D’Emporda in Spain is the only venue out of all of Europe that checked these two boxes. We then booked it sight unseen and hired a wonderful local wedding planner Carole Bipat who helped us design and plan the beautiful wedding.

The Dress & Attire

It was very difficult to find a dress. I think I have probably tried on fifty dresses if not more. The moment I put on the Galia Lahav Gia gown, I knew it was going to be my wedding dress. It made me feel playful, beautiful, and I didn’t want to take it off. Sharon (the designer) was at the salon to make sure Gia was customized to perfection for me. I felt very special to be a Galia Lahav bride.

All of my bridesmaids picked their own dress and hairstyle. I wanted them to feel beautiful and comfortable. They ended up choosing gowns in blush, rose gold, and lilac. To match and blend the different looks, I gifted each of my bridesmaids pearl hair accessories for their updos. They look divine on the wedding day.

Memorable Moments

The vintage car we rented broke down on our way to the ceremony. The groom had to wait for a long time at the altar and thought I got cold feet. The anticipation and relief when he saw me getting off the car made the walk down the aisle even more special.

The Important Details

To be able to give our guests and ourselves a great experience was the utmost importance to us. People tend to forget about the small details at weddings, but I think the memory of feeling love and celebrating with your friends and families will always be there. We curated a three-day weekend of sailing, tours in the local area, along with the wedding celebrations so our guests could really get to spend time and experience new things together.
