Rustic & Romantic Cinco De Mayo Ranch Wedding

Always dying for Mexican weddings thanks to Claire’s own Baja wedding fiesta, today, we spoil you with a Cinco de Mayo wedding celebrated at the most rustic & romantic ranch in the Southwest.

Kenny & Nancy’s story and wedding both ooze romance – their proposal was inspired by Sleepless in Seattle (pulling at my NW heartstrings Kenny!) and their ranch wedding was filled deep red tones, roses & wild amounts of joy photographed so emotively by The Light & The Love.

Favorite details from this ever-so-romantic day? For one, the stunning & tall naked cake was inspired by Chrissy Teigen & John Legend’s own wedding cake (we’re obsessed too, Nancy!) Their wedding altar, crafted by the groom, was not only fitting in the rustic space, but found a space in their newlywed home – such a fabulous idea! And finally, being both of Mexican decent & coincidentally marrying on Cinco de Mayo, the couple decided to splurge on a mariachi band – we may be kindred souls!

Our Love Story

Growing up my mother would watch one of her favorite movies with us, Sleepless In Seattle. As I grew older, I thought it was really cool how this little kid wanted his dad to fall in love again and would do whatever it took to make it happen! I knew, when the time came, I would ask my love to marry me on top of the Empire State Building.

When Nancy and I started dating I was already in transition to relocate to another country for work on a two-year contract. I knew Nancy could not follow and definitely did not expect her to after only dating for four months no matter how we felt about each other. We talked and messaged every day and I came home to visit her at every opportunity. I knew it was time to propose on my visit in January 2017. I asked permission from her father and planned a trip to NYC! It was our first time to the city and we were both very excited to experience a new place together…the whole time I was anticipating the moment of the big question!

On the second day, we were able to see the Empire State Building. We rode the subway, me clenching my bag tightly to ‘protect’ the ring from being stolen, and finally popped up on 34th street and made our way to the top. Once on the observation deck, I looked for the place that reminded me most like what I had remembered from the movie as we took in the awesome views! It was really cold that day, but the sun was shining. When the moment was right, I kneeled down as I took her hand and pulled off her glove. It felt like we were the only people there! She started to cry and I told her how I felt about her and how I wanted her to be my wife and asked her to give me the honor of marrying her. She said yes!

I put the ring on her finger and stood up to give her a hug and a kiss. We were met with applause from all of the people watching. A lot of people were taking pictures and came up to congratulate us, it was really sweet. We started to look out again over the city and it started to snow…I know that part sounds made up, but it happened…and we just enjoyed the moment!

The Dress & Attire

Nancy spent a lot of time with friends and family finding the right dress at the right price. She eventually went out on her own and found the one! Her bridesmaids got together and gifted Nancy with her beautiful Christian Louboutin shoes.

I had been a fan of the Stitched brand custom tailored suits and knew I would treat myself for my big day.

The Planning & Wedding Style

I researched wedding planners while I was abroad and set a meeting up on one of my trips home. We met Desi and knew right away that we would be well taken care of and were in the hands of a seasoned professional!

Nancy and I knew we wanted to do something non-Vegas themed for our day. We wanted our guests to feel comfortable and feel like they were somewhere special in Las Vegas. We knew we had to have great food and entertainment. Nancy had a really good idea for the color schemes and overall feel of the event. Once we found the venue all of our ideas came together for the theme. We were fortunate enough to have everything come together better than what we could have expected!

The Important Details

We just wanted our friends and family to be comfortable and enjoy the day along with us. We emphasized awesome food, great live music and an amazing team to capture the day on film. Having a videographer was a great choice and well worth every penny! As Nancy and I are both of Mexican descent, and we coincidentally were married on the 5th of May, we splurged on a three-piece mariachi band to perform during the dinner. They were a classy trio who played amazingly!

Favorite Moments

The best part of the day were all of the little moments when Nancy and I could look at each other enjoying those special moments we had planned for! The made of honor’s speech was on of the top the highlights.

The Personal Details

We were able to add some personal touches by making each place card together. Nancy wrote the guests’ names and I wrote the table numbers. I was also able to make the archway we were married under. We kept the front arch piece as a keepsake to incorporate into the structure of our home one day. Another unique personal touch was added by making the ring bearer’s ring holder and insert.

The Cake

Nancy LOVES cake! Thankfully our good friend and my co-worker who is an awesome pastry chef was able to recreate a beautiful rustic carrot cake inspired by Chrissy Teigen’s wedding cake that Nancy found a picture of.

Advice to Other Couples

It’s all about you two. Make it how you want it! Hire a planner and videographer. You will need the support and advice of a true professional and will want to document the special day to see all of the things you missed and be able to replay the day as it goes by faster than you think!
