10 Apps & Online Tools To Help With Wedding Planning https://bridalmusings.com/119216/10-apps-and-online-tools-to-help-with-wedding-planning/ Tue, 02 Jun 2020 13:00:56 +0000 http://bridalmusings.com/?p=119216 While we have mixed feelings about technology at weddings themselves (if we see another gorgeous aisle shot ruined by an iPad!), there are lots of apps and online tools that can make wedding planning your big day a whole lot easier.

Well all know Pinterest has been a blessing (and sometimes an overwhelming curse) when it comes to wedding inspiration, Instagram is so helpful for sussing out a vendor's style, and obviously we are massive advocates for wedding blogs!

Three Little Words invitations photographed by Claire Eliza via Bridal Musings

But what about when it comes down to the nitty-gritty? When you're no longer looking for ideas, tips and advice, but when you actually have to sit down and devise your seating plan or make up your budget.

The internet has gifted us with so many great digital resources for planning our weddings, many of which are affordable, or completely free. But with so many to sift through, it can be hard to find the best ones, so to help you on your way, we've rounded up a few of our favorites!

1. Wedding Website Builders

We've written before about wedding websites, and if you ask me, they're a modern-day essential for almost every wedding.

They're a go-to spot for guests to get all the information they need for your big day, from start times and dress codes to links for accommodation and travel. You can also use them to collect RSVPs, dietary requirements and playlist requests.

Best of all, they avoid you having to field all sorts of FAQs in the final days before your wedding, AND they cut back on paper because you don't need to send an info card with your invitations.

There are lots of wedding websites to go with, but among my faves are Riley & Grey, With Joy, and our next little tip…

2. Minted

Want to coordinate your wedding website with all of your event's paper goods? Minted offers brides & grooms a platform that creates a stylish online presence (ie. your wedding website) cohesively paired with matching paper invites & stationery. And guess what?! Right now they're offering 15% off your Minted Weddings order with our exclusive code: BridalMusings15.

Their websites include all the bells and whistles you need – RSVP tracker, custom URLs, address book, etc – and you'll be given a credit for your stationery when you set it up! As for the invitations & stationery, Minted sources their designs from top artists worldwide, granting loads of customizations: think gold foil, letterpress, monograms, personalized stamps and more.

When all is said and done you'll have Save The Dates, Invites, RSVP cards, Thank Yous, Escort Cards & a wedding website all to match – all organized and ordered in one place!

3. Venue Search Tools

Finding the perfect wedding venue, in your local town or ideal destination that hits the mark on budget, guest count, scenery, services, curfew, aesthetics (on and on and on) can be vexing, luckily there are some websites that help you filter through them all!

For those searching stateside, The Wedding Spot offers a regional search tool with loads of venues from rustic barn weddings, swanky hotel soirees and all-inclusive resorts. Jet-setting couples will benefit from The Venue Report‘s stylishly curated selection of venues worldwide. And for our intimate couples, did you know you can filter “Suitable For Events” properties on Airbnb? We've curated a selection of our favorite homes & villas that are available for weddings here.

3. All Seated

All Seated is used by couples, event planners and venues alike for devising seating charts and creating venue lay-outs. It allows total flexibility, and you can use it to collaborate with your venue or planner, which means a lot less back and forth.

While this tool is handy for all kinds of weddings, it's particularly invaluable for large guestlists, unusual venue layouts, or for couples using a mix of table styles.

4. Spotify

Spotify (or your streaming service of choice) is so handy for creating playlists for your wedding. Whether it's music to listen to while you're getting ready, something chilled playing over dinner, or your big dancefloor favorites, you can collaborate with your other half, bridal party, guests or wedding DJ to compile your favorite songs.

Don't forget to check out our own ready-made playlists to make the job even easier!

5. Google Drive

So many couples use Google Drive for creating spreadsheets and keeping all their important wedding documents together in one place.

For our wedding, we found spreadsheets really handy for compiling our guests' addresses and dietary requirements, as well as managing our budget – not that we kept to it or anything!

Planner on Amazon via Bridal Musings

6. Bridebook

We're certain former UK brides wish they had Bridebook when they were getting married. This UK site is an online wedding planning resource that combines your budget planner, to-do list timeline, and vendor search in one handy tool.

Our favorite feature is that you can add your total budget and it will divvy it up among all the different aspects of your wedding based on the average costs in your area. Then you can edit it depending on the parts of your wedding you want to prioritize – and it's so user-friendly!

Bridebook has an app that is doing incredibly well, so it seems lots of couples are in agreement.

7. Gift Registries

We love gift registries as a way of cutting out any admin associated with receiving gorgeous presents and generous cash gifts, vouchers, or honeymoon contributions for your wedding. It also adds a bit of class to the whole potentially awkward cash situation, too!

A good wedding registry service will allow you to choose your gifts online or in-store, help you to track what's been purchased in the lead up to your day, coordinate the details for your thank you notes, and arrange a delivery for all your gifts at once you're ready – so you're not dealing with lots of individual deliveries in the days ahead of your wedding.

It means your guests can sort the gifts online too, which they'll most definitely appreciate.

While Amazon & Zola may be the obvious choices for an all-encompassing registry, some couples may opt for a more curated experience through Williams Sonoma & Anthropologie or even support small businesses on Etsy. For friends in the UK & Ireland, our registry of choice is The Wedding Shop.

Photo via Honeyfund

8. Honeyfund

Wanderlusters – and couples who already have all the homewares they need – can alternatively consider creating a honeymoon registry.

Honeyfund lets you register for your honeymoon flights, accommodation, tours & more. Friends & family can donate to your honeymoon fund or pay for specific items you've chosen & once you're ready you can use the funds to book your trip directly through their platform – so simple!

9. TransferWise

Destination brides & grooms this is for you! Anyone getting married abroad may have already encountered the conundrum of how to pay deposits to local vendors. With PayPal taking massive fees from money sent & received, small businesses often request direct wire transfers and charge the international fees to you.

TransferWise minimizes those fees (seriously, it's so much lower than a traditional bank transfer!) AND organizes all of your wedding payments all in one place so you can keep track of deposits & balances already paid. When Jack and I got married in Mexico, TransferWise acted basically as our virtual wedding accountant.

10. The Guest

Your wedding photographer may need a month or two to deliver those profesh photos for framing, but you should have to wait as long for those snaps from friends and family! The Guest – a simple photo-sharing app – says “Nix the hashtags. Forget the uploads. The Guest is the first and only photo-sharing app that does everything for you—instantly.”

The app works pretty intuitively: you enter your wedding info & add your guests. They'll receive invites & when your wedding begins the images taken with their phones' regular camera apps will automatically share to your gallery on The Guest – in real time!

Why Etsy Is Your Wedding Shopping Best Friend During Coronavirus https://bridalmusings.com/165699/shop-small-on-etsy-during-coronavirus/ https://bridalmusings.com/165699/shop-small-on-etsy-during-coronavirus/#respond Thu, 16 Jul 2020 18:11:34 +0000 https://bridalmusings.com/?p=165699 As some of you know, my husband & I moved to Portland last Fall & we were gleeful with how many small businesses would suit our needs from now on: local beauty products, decorations, plants, vintage furniture, handmade dresses & linens – everything we needed to start a new home we could buy from a small business in our neighborhood.

Then Coronavirus happened. And like many of you planning weddings, we had to shift buying nearly all necessities (aside from food & thankfully flowers!) online. My plans to shop small & shop local were thwarted – I felt so defeated – then I remembered our Bridal Musings bestie, Etsy!

Whether you're searching for your dream wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, engagement & wedding rings, wedding favors, stationery, linens, ribbons, signage, lighting or decor, Etsy has literally everything you could want in handmade & vintage form for your wedding.

So, even if your favorite neighborhood shops you planned to source from are temporarily closed or worse, out of business, you can still “shop small” and support artisans & small businesses thanks to Etsy‘s massive platform of creative entrepreneurs.

Better yet, if you still want to support your local community you can specify “shop location” in the filters as you shop to find local artisans in your area.

To inspire you, I decided to pick a trending theme & show how literally everything you need is on Etsy (& chic & affordable!)

20 Amazing Wedding Vendors Who Give Back https://bridalmusings.com/160165/wedding-vendors-who-give-back/ https://bridalmusings.com/160165/wedding-vendors-who-give-back/#respond Mon, 27 Jan 2020 08:00:34 +0000 https://bridalmusings.com/?p=160165 We get it — wedding planning can be mega-stressful and downright expensive. Did you know that the average wedding in 2019 cost between $29k and $31k? If that number makes you dizzy, consider the ways you might be able to funnel some of that cash toward a meaningful cause.

Your big day can make a big impact! We’ve rounded-up 20 vendors & designers who give back and maybe help you feel a little less guilty about that hefty price tag.

Fashion

Loulette Bride – A Brooklyn bridal designer who gives back in so many ways, from using compostable garment bags, to using fair and ethical labor, to planting a tree in a bride’s name for every gown sold. Beyond being eco-friendly, they choose one gown every season whose proceeds will go to a themed charity — for example, 5% of sales from their Queen Bee collection are donated to the Honeybee Conservancy.

Plum Pretty Sugar – We’ve gushed over the bridal and bridesmaid wares of Plum Pretty Sugar for a while now, but did you know they run a buy-one-give-one program too? Another reason to love them! For every piece purchased, PPS will donate another piece to women in need and domestic abuse survivors.

Brides for a Cause – This PNW-based wedding dress re-sale business sells gently worn gowns for charity in their Seattle, Tacoma & Portland boutiques. Their give-back program has recycled over 15,000 dresses and given over $1,000,000 to charities that support women.

Brides Do Good – is a UK bridal re-sale business supporting worldwide projects that empower young girls and their communities. Check out their projects page to see the impact their initiatives have made around the globe.

Jewelry

MiaDonna engagement ring via Bridal Musings

MiaDonna – If you know the struggle of finding ethically-sourced engagement rings, then you’ll appreciate MiaDonna, a “foundation-first” Portland-based wedding jeweler that specializes in conflict-free, lab-grown diamonds and gemstones. A minimum of 10% of their net profit is donated to “educational, mentorship, agricultural, and urgent relief programs in diamond mining communities through The Greener Diamond Foundation.”

Do Amore – “Choose a ring, build a well.” Sales of the stunning, ethical rings at Do Amore do just that: provide clean water to a community in need.

Photographers

Corinne Graves – An Alaska-based destination wedding photographer, Corinne Graves donates a percentage of proceeds to an animal sanctuary every year. This year she is giving all donations to the Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand.

Claire Eliza – Our own managing editor & destination wedding photographer, Claire Eliza shares Corinne's passion for wildlife & environmental causes, too! Each year Claire chooses a charity to donate a percentage of every wedding photography package like Gray Wolf conservationists Defenders of Wildlife and efforts to save big cats from extinction with the African Wildlife Foundation.

Stationery

Stationery by Bella Figura

Paperlust – This Australian wedding invitation company has joined forces with One Tree Planted to support reforestation efforts. For every order made through Paperlust, one tree is planted in Borneo, Indonesia to restore fire-ravaged areas around Tanjung Puting National Park.

Greenvelope – Speaking of trees, Greenvelope is a Seattle-based, eco-friendly, online invitation company that donates a percentage of every sale to Mountains to Sound, a PNW non-profit focused on conserving and enhancing the natural landscape of Washington State.

Bella Figura – If online invites aren’t your thing, check out Bella Figura’s “green” stationery — they’ve implemented a ton of sustainable techniques, from vegetable-based and organic inks, to recycled packaging materials, to 100% tree-free Bella Cotton and Bella Smooth Cotton papers. They also donate one percent of sales to different environmental organizations.

Cards for Causes – Don’t forget thank you cards! Order through Cards for Causes and 20% of your order’s revenue will be donated to a charity of your choice.

Florals & Decor

Rebloom – Forget wasteful centerpieces you’ll never see again — at Rebloom you can buy recycled and re-vamped centerpieces from local events and then choose a charity to receive a large portion of the proceeds.

Repeat Roses– Or be the good yourself, donating your flowers to Repeat Roses who will retrieve flowers from your wedding day and repurpose them into beautiful arrangements for hospital, cancer-center & hospice care patients in your community. And to double-down on their do-gooder status, the organization later collects & composts the twice-loved bouquets.

Vaseful – An online floral vendor, Vaseful's stunning floral arrangements are hand-crafted by men and women with disabilities.

Planning

New Creations Wedding Design & Coordination – A women-owned Seattle-based wedding planning business that donates a portion of their service fee to your choice of their pre-selected charities listed here.

LLG Events – Every year international luxury wedding planner, LLG Events, put together an incredible team of vendors to gift a pro-bono dream wedding to a couple in need, and they are currently accepting nominations for this year's LLG Gifted couple here.

Registry

Photo viaHoneyfund

Honeyfund – So maybe you’re struggling with a registry because you have everything you need — lucky you! Set up a cash fund through web-based registries like Honeyfund which allow you to donate a percentage of gifts received to a cause of your choice.

The Knot Gifts Back – The program partners with more than 100 charities that receive a donation each time a guest buys a gift from your registry.

SoKind – If you’re anything like me and thought of more “stuff” filling the house gives you anxiety, look no further than SoKind. SoKind is an alternative gift registry that lets guests gift you experiences, second-hand goods, handmade items, and charitable donations.

Plum Pretty Sugar’s Favorite Cozy Gifts To Pamper Your Bridesmaids https://bridalmusings.com/145998/plum-pretty-sugar-gifts/ https://bridalmusings.com/145998/plum-pretty-sugar-gifts/#respond Thu, 29 Nov 2018 13:00:54 +0000 https://bridalmusings.com/?p=145998 Who else jumps straight into shopping for your girls when gifting season arrives? Whether your wedding is soon upon us or a bit down the road, you want to pop the “will you be my bridesmaid?” question or like me – the big day already happened, these gifts picked by Plum Pretty Sugar‘s CEO Charlotte Hale are just cozy enough to pamper your best ladies through the Winter.

From soft & comfy robes (the very same I gifted my gals at my wedding last month!) stargazing guides, to a fabulous boob bath mat – Charlotte is clearly a friend we all want to have. Captain of the ever-trendy brand of robes, pajamas, dresses & bridesmaid gifts galore she's dished to us her favorite Plum Pretty Sugar pieces and cozy items she'd gift even her own gals.

Read our interview with the robe trendsetter & shop her gift list below!

Eyelet fringe, sheer silk embroidery, printed silk – of all the amazing designs what’s your favorite robe you’re gifting this season?

Gifting Plum Pretty Sugar for the Holidays is one of my favorite things. I tend to gift a variety of silhouettes along coordinating print lines. I like to select a print I think someone might like and create a gift around it.

For instance, I might like our new Boheme print for a friend. I think about what styles might work for them…it might be a beautiful pajama set accompanied by a cosmetic bag. For another friend, I might select Tigerlila and select a midi robe and darling pajama shorts. For a pregnant friend, I might select a maternity dress or a maternity robe and an eye or sleep mask.

I like to keep them surprised with pretty floral robes and pajama sets… but also include a little something extra.

Which pieces would you say are the coziest for keeping warm this holiday season (and winter weddings?!)

This season we introduced a long sleeve pajama set. It’s the most beautiful set with luxe piping and buttons and in our super high-quality rayon. Definitely number one! Number two would be a floral robe or kimono robe in a long ankle length. We’ve got up to 18 different prints in our floral robes – so many gorgeous options for holiday gifting or bridesmaid robe gifting.

What’s your dream ladies’ weekend? Where would it be, what would you do, and which robes would match the vibes?

Right now I’m really into a new hotel in Laguna Beach called Hotel Joaquin. It’s the sister property to Korakia in Palm Springs that I love so much. I grew up in Orange County, CA (via Yorkshire in the UK) and Laguna always pulls at my heart. Honestly, I think my girlfriends and I would relax…and have a few drinks. We keep busy with businesses and family so relaxing is heaven. My favorite is an umbrella-ed lounge chair with an abundant side table for multiple snacks, drinks and lots of magazines.

Pool or beachside we’d wear Plum Pretty Sugar Hibiscus floral robes as cover-ups. Evenings and mornings, we’d do midi or ankle robes. I'm personally loving the extra bit coverage and length – it feels sophisticated, elegant and just pretty. And for room hangs, our new Flounce pants and Tees. They go from indoor to outdoors and I love that.

Any hints to what’s inspiring the next fabulous season of print & colors for Plum Pretty Sugar?

Great question! Honestly, I have to keep it fairly mum. We’re a category creator and leader and we consistently innovate and push boundaries. 2019 marks ten years of business for Plum Pretty Sugar so you’ll see some special things for sure.
