Why You Should Elope On A Sailboat

When you elope, venue possibilities open up. No longer hunting for a hall that will fit 200, no longer limiting ceremony spots that require no grandparents climbing steps. The world is your oyster, so why not set your sights on the sea…

Eloping during sunset on a sailboat sounds mighty nice to us. Imagine yourselves newlyweds basking in that golden hour glow, sipping on champagne with your few nearest and dearest. Lyndi Ruth photographed this breathtaking inspiration for us and we think it could be the perfect advertisement for “Why you should elope on a sailboat”. While absolutely minimal in decor (what more do you really need, honestly?) a sailboat elopement looks luxe & sophisticated, requiring nothing much more than a few flowers, your own fab fashion & some glassware for toasting.

Not long ago a fellow blogger friend of ours eloped herself on a Yacht in Southern California, and ohhhh what it pretty. But you don’t have to be coastal to take advantage of this beautiful idea, our inspirational couple of the day happen to be sailing…in Dallas!

Inspiration for this shoot came from seeing how 2020 was a storm. What brides and grooms are looking for are vendors they know will work with them to create a smooth sailing experience. I wanted to do something unique and not usually seen in Dallas.

There is a small sailing team on Whiterock lake. I had met the head of the sailing department, Steve, who let me borrow his boat for the shoot and we started making this dream come to life. I’ve realized the more I dream, the less I sleep because those dreams keep me up at night. I’m pushing myself everyday to be more creative, innovative and try things that might scare me. I directed, styled and shot this fun shoot during the storm of a pandemic. I wanted to make it simplistic, timeless and original. I’m so thankful for a team who fully trusted my vision and we went for it.

During this shoot, I directed the couple, my boat driver, their boat captain, worked around lighting trying to get the boats in the perfect spot, switched between lenses without dropping any in water, challenged my balance on a moving boat, reposed and repositioned the couple and died of creative happiness. We couldn’t have had a more perfect day and a better team to work with.
