While I can’t speak to the Black bride experience, I can relate to the antiquated expectations & standards of “bridal beauty”.
When wedding planning as a woman who doesn’t wear makeup, I was constantly bombarded with opinions and expectations from the industry. Vendors I spoke with & other members of the peanut gallery commented “how I would regret not wearing makeup on my wedding day” and how “the camera would show all my flaws”. What, are my flaws too unsightly for you?
When Googling and seeking some sort of “is there anyone else out there like me?” I came up pretty short on finding examples of brides who went au natural on their wedding day. I’m so glad that I stuck to my guns (thanks to my best friends telling me not to touch the makeup I bought ‘just in case’ in the final hour) and now can “be an example” to others that, yes, you can go natural on your wedding day if that feels right for you!
Which is why I am elated to share this bridal hair inspiration for our Black brides out there. This talented group of vendors, models & stylists show so many gorgeous, modern ways to show off your natural curls. We believe everyone should be exactly who they want on their wedding day – whether that’s totally glam, natural as can be or somewhere in between.
Pairing natural hairstyles with radical accessories, gorgeous gowns & separates (we see you The LAW Bridal – bridal separates queen!) and stunning desert background, this editorial from Tor Hawley: Creative fills a void of much needed inspiration.
