Crafting your own wedding decor adds a personal flair that no store-bought item can match. If you're gearing up for your big day and your budget is whispering sweet nothings about savings, how about embracing a DIY project that's both easy on the wallet and a feast for the eyes? Imagine creating a stunning bouquet of roses from coffee filters and glue for the jaw-dropping price of $17. That's right, just seventeen dollars. This bit of budget genius comes courtesy of Hannah from North Carolina (with permission!), whose creativity turned a frugal find into fabulous flora.

Now, let's talk about these roses. They're every crafty bride's dream: low cost, low waste, and high impact. Coffee filters offer the perfect canvas to bring any color palette to life, and they're resilient enough to survive the excitement and chaos of a wedding day. The best part? They won't droop or wilt when the day heats up.

This DIY journey is ideal for brides who get a kick out of crafting and the joy of declaring, “I made that!” as guests marvel at their handiwork. With a handful of supplies and a bit of time, you can create roses that add a touch of romance to any setting. Granted, it might take about 20 minutes to create each bloom, but it's a delightful way to add a personal touch to your special day, without draining your wallet.

While it does take a bit of time to craft these beauties, think of it as a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of wedding planning. It's your moment to pause, craft, and maybe even catch up on your favorite podcast.

Ready to embark on this crafty floral endeavor? The full tutorial, kindly provided by Hannah, is waiting below. It's packed with all the tips and tricks you need to create these charming, everlasting blooms.

And here's a sweet thought—these roses can live on past your wedding day. They can bloom in your home, serve as keepsakes for guests, or even inspire the next crafty bride who catches one.

Ready to get your hands on the tutorial and start this floral journey? The full tutorial, kindly shared with us by Hannah herself, is below and complete with all the tips and tricks to create these everlasting blooms.

Complete Tutorial: How to Create Artificial Flowers for Your Wedding

Supplies:

  • Acrylic paint
  • Water
  • Coffee filters
  • Scissors
  • Thin wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Bamboo skewers
  • Elmer's glue
  • Paint brush

Steps:

  • Dye
  • Cut/dry
  • Assemble

Dye:

  • Dilute acrylic paint in water
  • Dip coffee filters in mixture
  • Dip them in stacks, not one at a time
  • By dipping the edges in one color, letting it partially dry, and dipping the middle in another color, you can achieve a starburst look
  • Separate any large stacks into smaller stacks and allow to partially dry

Cutting and Drying

You will need two kinds of petals, inner and outer. For each rose you will need 4 outer sheets and 3 inner half-sheets. Because of this you will need to cut roughly 4x more sheets into outer petals than inner petals. You may cut multiple layers at once.

Outer petals:

  • Fold damp sheets into half and then into thirds to create sixths
  • Cut a shallow “m” shape
  • Unfold and cut one slit from one edge, stopping at the center

Inner petals:

  • Fold damp sheets into eighths
  • Cut a rounded “v” shape
  • Unfold and cut in half
  • Cut a slit from the peak of the center petal continuing halfway down

After petals are cut, lay sheets out so they may dry. (They do not need to be fully dry to assemble.)

Assembling pt 1.

You will need 3 half-sheets of inner petals and 4 sheets of outer petals.

Inner petals:

  • Mix elmer's glue and water to create a thin glue mixture. Apply to inner petal half-sheet as shown below (red)
  • Starting at one side, roll sheet into a cone
  • Apply glue to the next sheet, place cone on it and roll. Do this again to use all 3 inner petal sheets
  • Cut the end off of the cone

Outer sheets

  • On the first and third outer sheets: fold over the first petal and apply glue as shown below (red)
  • Place cone on sheet and roll
  • On the second and fourth outer sheets: do not fold over the first petal. This will ensure the petals are staggered and look realistic. Apply glue.
  • Place cone on sheet and roll
  • Repeat until all 4 outer petal sheets are used

Assembling pt 2.

  •  After all sheets are rolled, cut the end off of the cone
  • Insert bamboo skewer near the middle on the flower
  • Wrap wire around base of flower and tighten
  • The higher you wrap the wire, the more loose and open the flower will be
  • Add finishing touches such as opening and curling the petals

Little Luxuries That Make a Big Difference on Your Wedding Day https://bridalmusings.com/200039/little-luxuries-that-make-a-big-difference-on-your-wedding-day/ Fri, 15 Dec 2023 11:16:23 +0000 https://bridalmusings.com/?p=200039

Hello there, lovely readers! Today, we're diving into a special treat, handpicked from knowledgeable industry experts – the little hints of luxury that can transition a wonderful wedding day into an extraordinary one.

We're not talking about big extravagances, but rather those petite, considerate touches that make your day distinctively ‘you' and leave your guests feeling cherished. From the elegance of personalized hangers to the joy of a gourmet coffee bar, our experts have gathered some charming ideas that add just the right amount of opulence without overdoing it.

So, serve yourself a cup of your favorite brew, find a cozy spot, and let's unearth these delightful details together. Trust us, these expert-approved ideas can dust a sprinkle of magic over your grand event!

Choose special getting ready attire

“It’s worth it to splurge on a quality, luxury bridal robe for the wedding morning! Not only will it make for beautiful photos of one of the most important mornings of your life, but it'll be a special item you'll wear again for little moments of luxury throughout your life. Trust us, this is one upgrade you won’t regret!” – Kristy Breed & Helen Semovski, Director & Designer, Le Rose Stories

Add personalized menus

“Guest experience should be paramount when envisioning the perfect wedding day. Consider personalizing aspects of your day for each guest. Create menus with each guest's name and specific menu choices to be placed at their assigned seat. Not only is this a high impact element for guests but it creates a finished look for your tables and makes tracking menu choices easier for catering.” – Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design

KeraiDesigns / Etsy

Personalized Hangers

“Hey, why not add a sweet, personal touch with customized hangers? Picture this: your wedding date and your names beautifully scripted on them. Not only do they make your wedding dress and suit look even more special, but think of the gorgeous photo ops they'll create!” – Elizabeth M Kane, Founder, Bridal Musings

Serve up a welcome beverage

“Champagne is always the answer. Have glasses of champagne (and non-alcoholic options!) passed out to guests as they arrive for the ceremony. It sets a luxurious tone for the day and why doesn't love a pre-ceremony beverage?” – Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design

Handwritten Calligraphy Notes

“Last but not least, imagine your guests finding personalized notes at their seats. Handwritten, maybe with a little memory or a thank-you in beautiful calligraphy. It’s a heartfelt, simple way to make everyone feel truly part of your special day.” – Elizabeth M Kane, Founder, Bridal Musings

Offer guests a late night snack

“Adding a late-night snack to your reception timeline is well worth the extra dough. Guests have been dancing and drinking for 3-4 hours at this point, so they will thank you for this one in the morning!” – Rachel, Rachel Red Photography

Hire a professional assistant!

“Hiring a planning team that provides a bridal assistant or has access to suggest a reputable bridal assistant vendor is so important to the success of a smooth and memorable wedding day! Having a professional bridal assistant present to take care of all the little things while getting ready will make the day so much more relaxing and allow you, your family and your friends to be fully present, allowing you to soak it all in, and truly enjoy the day. The benefit of investing in this service is having a designated, experienced assistant there to steam or press garments, assist with all attire preparation for everyone in the bridal party, accompany bridal party while taking photos, have emergency sewing kits and other needed supplies on hand, be a direct line of contact to your planning team to communicate any changes or immediate needs and so much more! We think this is a little something special that can lead to the most unforgettable day. There is nothing better than looking and feeling your best and feeling completely taken care of on such a special day!” – The A Charleston Bride Team

Silk Pocket Squares or Scarves

“For a touch of class, how about silk pocket squares for the gents and elegant scarves for the ladies? It's a stylish way to add a bit of luxury to their outfits, and they get to keep them as a chic memento.” – Elizabeth M Kane, Founder, Bridal Musings

Wear a wedding fragrance

“Do you want to remember exactly how you felt when you saw each other on your wedding day? A scent can immediately trigger a detailed memory, so picking a brand-new fragrance for you and your partner to wear is a worthy splurge.” – Rachel, Rachel Red Photography

Embroidered Linens

“Dinner tables can be more than just tables. With some high-quality linens featuring delicate embroidery, you’re not just setting a table; you’re creating an experience. It’s all about adding sophistication without going over the top.” – Elizabeth M Kane, Founder, Bridal Musings

Upgrade your lighting

“Say it louder for the people in the back – LIGHTING!!! Anytime a client asks me what element packs the biggest punch for setting the mood for their big day, my answer is lighting. There is a wide array of lighting you can consider to enhance all aspects of your wedding day – from overhead bistro or twinkle lights, colorful and fun up-lights, dramatic chandeliers or candlelight, pinspots, mirror balls, or full blown production tent or stage washes. Any of these options can really create an environment and evoke a specific feeling with just the use of light and color. Whether you are trying to enhance something indoors, outdoors, or even tented – lighting is effective in any location!” – Alexandra Denniston, Owner and Lead Planner, Eventlightenment Planning

Gourmet Coffee and Tea Bar

“Who doesn't love a good cup of coffee or tea? Bring in a barista and treat your guests to some top-notch brews. It's perfect for a morning wedding or as a pick-me-up after dancing. Plus, it's a cozy and classy touch that coffee and tea lovers will adore.” – Elizabeth M Kane, Founder, Bridal Musings

Gift everyone favors

“I'm forever encouraging my couples to include either a consumable favor at each place setting, and a place card (made of or lettered on something other than just card stock) that guests can take home at the end of the night. The food/consumable appeals to the folks that are less sentimental, and the place card wholly includes those that are SO thrilled to have been included in your day.” – Ashley Lachney, Owner, Alston Mayger Events

High-Quality Guest Toiletries

“Let’s make those restroom visits unexpectedly pleasant. Stock up on some fancy hand creams, quality hairspray, and maybe some mints. It's those little luxe details in the restrooms that can make your guests feel extra pampered.” – Elizabeth M Kane, Founder, Bridal Musings

Include custom details

“Impress your guests and further personalize your wedding day with custom details. A custom logo can be used in multiple ways, for example, embossed on cocktail napkins, fun decals, and more. Or splurge on customizing certain décor, like linens, that will elevate other details like the table scape and centerpieces. Custom colors or textures will feel lush and luxe and make your guests feel as though you really pored over the details.” – Jessica Rodriquez Hanselman, Crossed Keys Estate

Have an on-site beauty artist

“Hire your lead beauty artist for a handful of additional touch up hours. Your artist can provide hair and makeup touch ups during photos and help you freshen up before and after the ceremony. They will reapply your lipstick, powder or blot your shiny skin if you've been perspiring, fix your mascara or lashes you may have cried off, and make sure your hairs aren't wildly flying around in photos. If the timeline permits, they can restyle your hair and makeup to coordinate with a second look. This is a little luxury that my planning couples rave about!” – Jessica Carrillo, Art & Soul Events

Splurge on the champagne

“Bottles will likely be popping on your wedding day morning, so splurge on upgraded bubbled! Skip the grocery store prosecco and upgrade your sips to truly indulge and feel spoiled.” – Nora Sheils, Founder, Bridal Bliss + Rock Paper Coin

Treat yourself to a dress change

“A little luxury that makes an impact on your wedding day will be a second dress. It may seem like a small detail, but it will be a weight off of your shoulders (literally) so you can dance the night away comfortably. It's a long day in your wedding gown, so this gives you a chance to take a breath, take in the moments, and feel most comfortable as well.” – Casey Stamouli, Owner and Lead Planner, Casey & Co. Events

Velvet Ring Boxes

“Velvet ring boxes? Yes, please! These aren’t just boxes; they’re little treasures themselves. They add a luxurious feel to your ring exchange and become a beautiful keepsake you'll cherish.” – Elizabeth M Kane, Founder, Bridal Musings

Wear comfortable shoes

“We totally think you should splurge on the shoes you have always wanted to wear on your wedding day (hello Louboutin!), but also splurge on really comfortable shoes to wear once your feet are tired! It can be a fancy pair of sneakers, flip flops or even slippers! Your feet will thank you once you hit the dance floor!” – Jamie, Cape Cod Celebrations

Have a photobooth

“One luxury that you'll never regret is a photo booth for your wedding day. After the photographer leaves and everyone is high on the celebration, a photo booth will be the perfect place to capture those funny moments that you'll always want to remember.” – Natalya Kolosok, New York City Bride

Don’t skimp on the flowers

“One luxury that can breathe life into any wedding and create unforgettable moments is flowers. Whether it's adding an arrangement to your cake table or a floral arch to your ceremony, there are tons of great ways that flowers can provide a sense of beauty to any moment in your wedding.” – Natalya Kolosok, New York City Bride

The biggest luxury of all: time!

“Time is one of the single most precious and scarce resources you will have on your day. It is priceless in that you literally can't buy more of it. Indulge in giving yourself the time to be present and fully take certain moments in. Stay with your mom or dad just those 5-10 seconds longer at the end of a parent dance. Take 10 minutes to find a quiet place to have a drink with your best man. Find a brother or sister and take a moment to enjoy dessert alone together like a couple of kids. There will be many big moments. Give yourself the precious luxury of taking in and enjoying the small ones.” – Robert Perkins, Founder, On The Beat Music Agency

And that wraps up our list of little luxuries! A collection of little luxuries that promise to add a sprinkle of special to your big day. Remember, it’s not about going over the top; it’s about finding those small, meaningful ways to elevate your celebration and make it truly memorable. Whether it’s through a bespoke scent at your perfume bar or a heartfelt note in gorgeous calligraphy, each of these ideas is all about adding a personal touch that speaks volumes. As you plan your wedding, think about which of these ideas resonate with you and how they can reflect your unique style and story. Happy planning, and here’s to a wedding day filled with lovely, luxurious moments that you and your guests will cherish!

Wedding Pro Tips: Essential Morning Prep for Couples & Wedding Party https://bridalmusings.com/199744/wedding-morning-essential-tips-from-the-pros/ Wed, 06 Dec 2023 14:31:08 +0000 https://bridalmusings.com/?p=199744
Simly Adri Photography / Feathered Arrow Events

Hello there fabulous wedding team! As we count down to the big day, we've compiled key wedding morning tips from seasoned insiders. We're covering everything: from important minor accessories to the art of effective task delegation.

Grab your coffee (or champagne, we're all for choice!), and let's get focused. Today we embrace the joy and task at hand, creating a memorable occasion with each decision we make. Let's start this journey to the aisle in style!

Photography: Julieta Photography / Planning & Design: Amy Abbot Events

Make Sure You Have All of Your Accessories

“While your shirt, jacket, and pants are typically no-brainers to bring with you on the wedding morning, you'd be surprised how easily things like socks, shoes, or belts get left at home! Take note of all of the items that are part of your wedding day ensemble so that you can add them to your packing list to be sure you've got everything you need.”

Jason Jackson, President & COO, Generation Tux

Create a Calm Atmosphere with a Personalized Playlist

“Start your day in harmony with a custom playlist that soothes or energizes you. Music sets the mood, so whether it's classical tunes, jazz, or your favorite pop hits, let your wedding morning be a symphony of songs that make you smile. Remember, it’s not just any day – it’s your day, so let every note reflect your happiness!”

Elizabeth M Kane, Bridal Musings

Don’t Forget to Delegate Tasks!

“The morning of the wedding should be a time of peace and enjoyment for everyone in the bridal party, including the couple! The best way to prepare for the morning of the wedding is to delegate assignments to those around you who are eager to assist. The couple should not be fielding phone calls the morning of the wedding. Hand your phone over to a trusted individual (like a sibling, Maid of Honor or Best Man) who can best answer questions or accept well wishes from anyone who texts or calls. If the couple is left to field their own phone calls, this could lead to delays in your timeline and could lead to unnecessary stress.”

Have a Mini Yoga or Meditation Session

“Amidst the whirl of wedding excitement, a brief yoga or meditation session can be a blissful oasis of calm. Just 15 minutes of gentle stretching or mindfulness can center your thoughts and relax your body. Invite your bridal party to join in – it’s a wonderful way to bond and de-stress together!”

Elizabeth M Kane, Bridal Musings

Take Time for You

“With a very tight day-of timeline, it can feel impossible to weave in time for yourself, but it’s SO important. Sleep in if you want to, carve out time to actually eat breakfast, and unplug from technology the best you can. My other expert tip after years of doing this – don't drink champagne an hour before exchanging vows due to the possibility of hiccups!”

Kristin Sullivan, Founder, The Bridal Retreat

Bring Your Getting Ready Outfits!

“It’s been a trend for brides over the last few years to have their bridal party wear matching “getting ready” outfits, and that trend isn’t going anywhere any time soon! If you’re treating your #bridesquad to matching PJs or robes the night before or the morning of the wedding, be sure you’ve packed those to give out to everyone. If you’ve gifted them to your gals in advance, remind everyone to bring along their outfit to ensure you get those perfect photos during hair and makeup in the morning!”

Kristy Breed & Helen Semovski, Director & Designer, Le Rose Stories

Bring Any Gratuities Labeled and Organized

“You may have generously opted to tip your vendors. If so, place all of the tips in sealed, clearly-labeled envelopes and give them to a trusted bridal party member to distribute on your behalf throughout the morning.”

Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design

Have All of Your Keepsakes on Hand for Your Photographer

“To help ensure you get the detail shots you want on your wedding morning, have your save the date, two copies of your invitation suite, jewelry, ring box, garter, and any other keepsakes or heirlooms organized and in one place for your photographer. Gathering these items the night or two before will alleviate any last-minute scrambling the morning of trying to remember or find where you left them last. This is an easy task you can even assign to your mom or your matron/maid of honor. Pro Tip: If your stationer doesn't gift you with a keepsake box, purchase one to keep copies of your pretty paper details in to cherish for years to come.”

Meghan Shaughnessy, Lace and Belle

Be Sure to Eat!!!

“Don't forget to eat AND to feed your bridal party! Place your breakfast or room service order in advance of the morning and assign a bridal party member to pick-up the breakfast order or to ensure that the food arrives and is set-up on time. And make certain that your bridal party reminds you to eat food and drink plenty of water throughout the morning!”

Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design

Capture the Morning's Memories with a Dedicated ‘First Journal Entry'

“On the morning of your wedding, take a few moments to jot down your thoughts and feelings in a journal. This first entry as a nearly-wed is a beautiful way to capture the raw emotions and excitement of the day. It becomes a cherished memory, a tangible piece of your love story that you can revisit and cherish for years to come.”

Elizabeth M Kane, Bridal Musings

Be on Time

“Be on time. Your hair and makeup artists are depending on you to arrive at a scheduled time so your services don't cause the morning (or the timeline!) to lag. Ensure that your hair and skin are as instructed by your artists. We've seen hair and makeup take up much more time than anticipated when prep instructions weren't followed.”

Ashley Lanchney, Owner, Alston Mayger Events

Get All of Your Attire Steamed and Ready to Go

“If you don't have a wedding planner, assign one bridesmaid and one groomsman to collect all of the bridal party attire into one central location in your prep room. Have this individual assess the state of the dresses, shirts, ties, shoes, jackets and pants to ensure that everything is clean and pressed. If anything needs to be touched up, make sure you have a steamer and iron on hand for individuals to prep their own attire before dressing.”

Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design

Have All of the Information for Your Bridal Party

“Your wedding day will run most efficiently if the bridal party is informed of the events to come throughout the entire day and evening and where they are needed. For example, we find it helpful to let them know after the ceremony rehearsal if they need to meet up somewhere to be ready for the announcements at the reception instead of going into the ballroom with all the guests after cocktail hour. This will save so much time if everyone is organized and gathered, ready to be lined up and no one has to go running around looking for specific people.”

Valarie Falvey, Kirkbrides

Pen a Love Note to Your Future Spouse

“Take a quiet moment to write a few heartfelt lines to your soon-to-be life partner. It’s a beautiful way to express your excitement and love on the morning of your wedding. This little note can be a cherished keepsake, a reminder of the joy and anticipation of this special day.”

Elizabeth M Kane, Bridal Musings

Have a Go Bag

“Have a “go bag” ready the night before. I recommend having everything the bride and co will need at the reception ready before hair and makeup even begins. The go bag would contain items like spare shoes, band aids, hair spray, makeup, mints, floss, etc. They will have more time to focus on the contents when the room is not filled with people and activity.”

Melanie Levin, Owner, LuckEleven Events

Organize a Special Gift Exchange Among the Wedding Party

“Add a sprinkle of surprise to the morning by organizing a small gift exchange within your wedding party. It could be something as simple as handwritten notes, custom bracelets, or even funny socks. This little gesture of appreciation not only deepens the bond but also adds an extra layer of joy to the morning festivities.”

Elizabeth M Kane, Bridal Musings

Ensure You Know How to Tie a Tie or Bow Tie

“Regarding the groomsmen, make certain that at least one of your groomsmen is well-versed in how to tie both traditional ties and bow ties (depending on what you intend to wear.) Far too often I encounter the groomsmen huddled around a YouTube how-to video attempting to learn this lesson at the eleventh hour.”

Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design

Okay, team – that’s our roundup of top tips for your wedding morning. Whether you're the star of the show or the best supporting friend, these nuggets of wisdom are here to help everyone kick off the day without a hitch. Think of them as your secret weapon for a smooth start. So, grab your coffee, or hey, a mimosa (we won't tell), and let’s make this day one for the books!

10 Apps & Online Tools To Help With Wedding Planning https://bridalmusings.com/119216/10-apps-and-online-tools-to-help-with-wedding-planning/ Tue, 02 Jun 2020 13:00:56 +0000 http://bridalmusings.com/?p=119216 While we have mixed feelings about technology at weddings themselves (if we see another gorgeous aisle shot ruined by an iPad!), there are lots of apps and online tools that can make wedding planning your big day a whole lot easier.

Well all know Pinterest has been a blessing (and sometimes an overwhelming curse) when it comes to wedding inspiration, Instagram is so helpful for sussing out a vendor's style, and obviously we are massive advocates for wedding blogs!

Three Little Words invitations photographed by Claire Eliza via Bridal Musings

But what about when it comes down to the nitty-gritty? When you're no longer looking for ideas, tips and advice, but when you actually have to sit down and devise your seating plan or make up your budget.

The internet has gifted us with so many great digital resources for planning our weddings, many of which are affordable, or completely free. But with so many to sift through, it can be hard to find the best ones, so to help you on your way, we've rounded up a few of our favorites!

1. Wedding Website Builders

We've written before about wedding websites, and if you ask me, they're a modern-day essential for almost every wedding.

They're a go-to spot for guests to get all the information they need for your big day, from start times and dress codes to links for accommodation and travel. You can also use them to collect RSVPs, dietary requirements and playlist requests.

Best of all, they avoid you having to field all sorts of FAQs in the final days before your wedding, AND they cut back on paper because you don't need to send an info card with your invitations.

There are lots of wedding websites to go with, but among my faves are Riley & Grey, With Joy, and our next little tip…

2. Minted

Want to coordinate your wedding website with all of your event's paper goods? Minted offers brides & grooms a platform that creates a stylish online presence (ie. your wedding website) cohesively paired with matching paper invites & stationery. And guess what?! Right now they're offering 15% off your Minted Weddings order with our exclusive code: BridalMusings15.

Their websites include all the bells and whistles you need – RSVP tracker, custom URLs, address book, etc – and you'll be given a credit for your stationery when you set it up! As for the invitations & stationery, Minted sources their designs from top artists worldwide, granting loads of customizations: think gold foil, letterpress, monograms, personalized stamps and more.

When all is said and done you'll have Save The Dates, Invites, RSVP cards, Thank Yous, Escort Cards & a wedding website all to match – all organized and ordered in one place!

3. Venue Search Tools

Finding the perfect wedding venue, in your local town or ideal destination that hits the mark on budget, guest count, scenery, services, curfew, aesthetics (on and on and on) can be vexing, luckily there are some websites that help you filter through them all!

For those searching stateside, The Wedding Spot offers a regional search tool with loads of venues from rustic barn weddings, swanky hotel soirees and all-inclusive resorts. Jet-setting couples will benefit from The Venue Report‘s stylishly curated selection of venues worldwide. And for our intimate couples, did you know you can filter “Suitable For Events” properties on Airbnb? We've curated a selection of our favorite homes & villas that are available for weddings here.

3. All Seated

All Seated is used by couples, event planners and venues alike for devising seating charts and creating venue lay-outs. It allows total flexibility, and you can use it to collaborate with your venue or planner, which means a lot less back and forth.

While this tool is handy for all kinds of weddings, it's particularly invaluable for large guestlists, unusual venue layouts, or for couples using a mix of table styles.

4. Spotify

Spotify (or your streaming service of choice) is so handy for creating playlists for your wedding. Whether it's music to listen to while you're getting ready, something chilled playing over dinner, or your big dancefloor favorites, you can collaborate with your other half, bridal party, guests or wedding DJ to compile your favorite songs.

Don't forget to check out our own ready-made playlists to make the job even easier!

5. Google Drive

So many couples use Google Drive for creating spreadsheets and keeping all their important wedding documents together in one place.

For our wedding, we found spreadsheets really handy for compiling our guests' addresses and dietary requirements, as well as managing our budget – not that we kept to it or anything!

Planner on Amazon via Bridal Musings

6. Bridebook

We're certain former UK brides wish they had Bridebook when they were getting married. This UK site is an online wedding planning resource that combines your budget planner, to-do list timeline, and vendor search in one handy tool.

Our favorite feature is that you can add your total budget and it will divvy it up among all the different aspects of your wedding based on the average costs in your area. Then you can edit it depending on the parts of your wedding you want to prioritize – and it's so user-friendly!

Bridebook has an app that is doing incredibly well, so it seems lots of couples are in agreement.

7. Gift Registries

We love gift registries as a way of cutting out any admin associated with receiving gorgeous presents and generous cash gifts, vouchers, or honeymoon contributions for your wedding. It also adds a bit of class to the whole potentially awkward cash situation, too!

A good wedding registry service will allow you to choose your gifts online or in-store, help you to track what's been purchased in the lead up to your day, coordinate the details for your thank you notes, and arrange a delivery for all your gifts at once you're ready – so you're not dealing with lots of individual deliveries in the days ahead of your wedding.

It means your guests can sort the gifts online too, which they'll most definitely appreciate.

While Amazon & Zola may be the obvious choices for an all-encompassing registry, some couples may opt for a more curated experience through Williams Sonoma & Anthropologie or even support small businesses on Etsy. For friends in the UK & Ireland, our registry of choice is The Wedding Shop.

8. Honeyfund

Wanderlusters – and couples who already have all the homewares they need – can alternatively consider creating a honeymoon registry.

Honeyfund lets you register for your honeymoon flights, accommodation, tours & more. Friends & family can donate to your honeymoon fund or pay for specific items you've chosen & once you're ready you can use the funds to book your trip directly through their platform – so simple!

9. TransferWise

Destination brides & grooms this is for you! Anyone getting married abroad may have already encountered the conundrum of how to pay deposits to local vendors. With PayPal taking massive fees from money sent & received, small businesses often request direct wire transfers and charge the international fees to you.

TransferWise minimizes those fees (seriously, it's so much lower than a traditional bank transfer!) AND organizes all of your wedding payments all in one place so you can keep track of deposits & balances already paid. When Jack and I got married in Mexico, TransferWise acted basically as our virtual wedding accountant.

10. The Guest

Your wedding photographer may need a month or two to deliver those profesh photos for framing, but you should have to wait as long for those snaps from friends and family! The Guest – a simple photo-sharing app – says “Nix the hashtags. Forget the uploads. The Guest is the first and only photo-sharing app that does everything for you—instantly.”

The app works pretty intuitively: you enter your wedding info & add your guests. They'll receive invites & when your wedding begins the images taken with their phones' regular camera apps will automatically share to your gallery on The Guest – in real time!
