Glamorous & Modern North Carolina Loft Wedding

You all may know how much we love a raw venue space – a blank canvas is a wedding planner & stylist’s dream! So we can only imagine how much fun it must have been to decorate Jasmine & David’s glamorous North Carolina loft wedding.

With epic draping, lush florals and a stylish ensemble, Loft at Plant Seven was transformed from its industrial bare bones to a soft & glamorous wedding scene. The large windows allowed for dreamy light for every portrait (such a score for Three Region Photography!) and dramatic pillars gave the scene such rustic character.

When you have such an open, light-filled venue the details stand out. No detail captures our attention more than Jasmine’s stunning Blush by Hayley Paige mermaid wedding dress. Decidedly against lace or beading, Jasmine was wow’d by the dress she never knew she’d love from the get-go (and we can understand why!) – proving our point that you should always try on a ‘wild card’ dress!

Our Love Story

David and I met through two different mutual friends. David initially saw me at a graduation dinner in May 2013, but he didn’t introduce himself because he says I didn’t seem approachable.

Fast forward to September 2013, I arrive at a birthday gathering and unbeknownst to me, I was walking into David’s apartment. After saying my hellos to the group, I stepped outside to speak to a friend. Shortly after, David came out and asked if he could speak with me.

We went through the general background questions and I found out that we were both from North Carolina, graduated with Industrial Engineering degrees, and were consultants. I thought it was pretty cool that we had all those things in common, so I said yes when he asked for my number and the rest is history.

The Proposal

Jasmine and I were planning a trip to Italy and I knew it would be a good time to propose. I hired a photographer in Italy and the plan was to propose on the Positano Beach.

We head down to the beach and I tell Jasmine we’re waiting on a dinner cruise. Meanwhile, I’m scanning the area looking for the photographer. I look at a guy and I squint my eyes at him like “is it you?” The guy winks at me and walks from behind a bench.

I see his camera and ask him if he minds taking a picture of us. He obliges and points to the beach area with the best view. He snaps a few pictures and I get Jasmine to turn around while I reach for the ring. When she turns back around I pop the question.

The Venue & Style

We live in Atlanta, but we’re both North Carolina natives, so we knew we wanted to get married there. It was also important to me that our venue had character. The industrial chic design of Loft at Plant Seven had an unfinished edge that gave it character but was still polished. We loved the large windows that brought in natural light and the open layout that gave us the freedom to make the space our own.

The color palette was inspired by the venue. I really loved how it had a clean and natural color scheme that set a light and airy atmosphere. When selecting the décor I went with a ‘less is more’ approach and focused on greenery with white florals as the main design elements. We chose white draping to soften the industrial space, striped ivory linen with a simple place setting, and accented the greenery with gold elements.

The Dress & Attire

Before I started wedding dress shopping, I knew I wanted a mermaid style dress with a sweetheart neckline. After trying on a few dresses, I decided no lace or beading, but when I tried on the Blush by Hayley Paige Reece Gown my eyes immediately lit up. It was nothing like I had tried on before and was the opposite of what I thought I liked. It had beautiful Marrakesh beading, a cashmere lining, and a flowing skirt with horsehair trim. After I did a few dance moves, I couldn’t stop smiling and knew it was the one!

David wanted to wear a black tux, so we decided on a classic look for the bridal party. The groomsmen wore black tuxedos with matching Skagen watches and the bridesmaids wore a black chiffon floor-length gowns from Azazie. I wanted to bring in an additional color for the bridesmaids, so my florist added Cappuccino and Sahara roses to the bouquets. She also hand-tied them with champagne chiffon and white silk streamers that was a beautiful contrast to the ladies’ black gowns.

My makeup artist created the perfect look for me. I don’t wear makeup daily, so I was very nervous about not looking like myself on my wedding day. I shared my concerns with her and she crafted a dewy look with a subtle eyeshadow and bold red lip that made me feel like myself and bridal.

The Photography

We loved our photographer! What drew us to Jessica was her creativity with locations and the natural approach she took with capturing moments. We knew we didn’t want traditional wedding photos. It was also important to us that our photographer captured the big moments and the small moments we may have missed. We felt that she would do a great job of conveying the story and emotions of the day.

During our engagement session, which was our first time meeting, she made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera and even came up with games to shake out our awkwardness! After we finished the shoot, we knew we’d made the right choice and couldn’t wait for the wedding.

Favorite Moments

One of our favorite moments from the wedding was entering the wedding ceremony. David’s dad was our officiant and his brother was the best man. David loved being able to walk in with them and have them by his side at the altar. I loved the moment I walked in with my dad. When we walked in, I paused at the top of the aisle looking at David and almost took another step, but my dad asked me, “Are you ready?”. At that moment I was filled with so much emotion and took a few extra seconds to take everything in before continuing down the aisle.

We wanted to include our families as part of the ceremony, so a sibling of each parent placed a flower at the altar before taking their seat. During the ceremony, David and I lit a unity candle, then we each took one flower. I gave my flower to David’s mom and he gave his flower to my mom. It was a surprise for our moms and our way of symbolizing the joining of our two families.

Special Details

As business consultants, traveling has been a big part of our relationship, so we used locations that were special to us as our guest table names. We thought it would be a great way to share that part of our life with our guests. It was also a reflection to us on where we’d been so far as we started our new journey together.

A lot of our guests were from out of state, so we wanted to bring elements of North Carolina into our wedding day. Cheerwine and Krispy Kreme are both North Carolina founded companies we enjoy, so we chose glass bottles of Cheerwine and Krispy Kreme donuts as our wedding favors. Our guests loved it and they were a great after wedding treat!

Advice to Other Couples

While planning you’ll find a lot of great ideas on Pinterest and other sites, but don’t overwhelm yourself (or break the budget!) trying to check off every box. Focus on the key items that are must-haves for you and let the other details fall in place. When there were budget concerns, we always thought about what we would want to look back on after the wedding and our guest experience, then decided how to adjust the budget. That really helped to keep things in perspective and not overspend on certain things.

Work with your photographer to create a list of pictures you want captured. In the moment, you’ll forget certain things, so it’s great to plan the photos out before the wedding day and communicate it to your photographer.

Remember that it is your wedding day, so always speak up, stay true to your vision, and enjoy it!

The Sparkler Send-off

We loved our sparkler exit! We expected to do the exit right outside the main door of the venue, but our photographer placed everyone down a long alley that made it seem like the sparklers shined brighter and made our exit even more magical. As we prepared to get in our exit car, our guests started singing Jagged Edge “Let’s Get Married”.
