I can tell you from experience, that Lowcountry weddings have an exceptional, dreamy quality to them.

Spanning the coastal regions of Georgia and South Carolina, Lowcountry has its own unique look and relaxed pace. Spanish moss waves from centuries-old oak trees. Southern sensibilities marry with seaside flavor. Lauren and Holt’s Crane Cottage at Jekyll Island wedding is a beautiful ode to the South.

Southern wedding style praise aside, let’s be real about what has us totally gaga about today’s wedding: Lauren’s green floral off-the-shoulder Monique Lhuillier wedding dress. The thoroughly modern gown marries a romantic and feminine silhouette with green floral details that bring it into the fresh era of bridal fashion. We’re crazy about painted floral wedding gowns and admire any bride willing to dare to be a little different on her wedding day.

Our Love Story

We met on a dating app in February of 2020. Holt was living in Arkansas and I was in Birmingham, Alabama. We both happened to be in Birmingham when we connected and planned a quick date the next night. I was skeptical because I knew he lived a few states away, but we had so many mutual friends I figured I would just go for fun. Before I knew it, four hours had passed and Holt was making plans to come back for a second date. Covid changed the world that March and the silver lining for us was that we were able to spend some great quality time together. Our relationship moved pretty quickly from there! It’s true that when you know, you really do know!

We got engaged on the snake river in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We spent the morning fly fishing and had stopped for lunch in the most picturesque spot with the Grand Tetons just behind us. We were walking out to take a photo and I turned around and Holt was on one knee. It was such a special day that I will never forget!

The Venue

I fell in love with the rich history of the Jekyll Club, the swaying Spanish moss, and the laid-back energy of the island. I first saw it online and when Holt and I visited, we had the most incredible experience. We wanted to share that with our friends and family.

The Dress

We booked our venue before we got engaged and with that, I was able to figure out very quickly what my vision was for my dress. I wanted something soft and romantic that felt appropriate for an outdoor summer wedding in the low country. When I saw the bloom gown from Monique Lhuillier’s spring 2020 collection, I knew. I made arrangements to try it on and the rest is history!

The Style & Inspiration

As for the overall color inspiration, green naturally became a theme for the wedding. My ring has emeralds, the shutters at the venue were green, my dress had green in it, and I could go on! I specifically chose blush for the bridesmaid dresses to compliment that. It all came together beautifully. This color theme was felt more on the front lawn where we had cake and danced!

The Flowers

I hired Matt Clinton to do the flowers for the weekend. Coming off of such a hard year, I wanted to celebrate with lots of color but also complement the natural beauty of Jekyll Island. I gave Matt a little direction but ultimately gave him free rein to do what he wants. He is insanely talented and creative and I trusted him fully!

Favorite Moments

The whole day felt incredibly special. After my dad gave me away, everyone sang the Doxology ACapella as our first act of worship together. It was a very powerful and emotional moment for us.

The Cake

We wanted to highlight the cuisine of the Lowcountry the best we could. My favorite was our bourbon, peach and pecan cake. It was a nod to Georgia and truly the most delicious cake I’ve ever tasted. We used the pattern on my dress as inspiration for the hand-painted details on the cake. Cathy was wonderful to work with!

Special Details

Our signature cocktail, The Huguley Jubilee, was developed by two of Holt’s uncles. Both of their sons used it as the signature cocktails at their weddings and we wanted to keep the tradition going. It features rum, pineapple, cranberry and a splash of lime and it’s truly the most refreshing cocktail for a hot summer night in the South!
