This Jewish wedding featured a stunning floral-filled chuppah

What an incredible chuppah! Overflowing with colorful peachy florals, Arielle and Matt’s traditional Jewish wedding featured a ceremony chuppah that will inspire couples for years to come.

Accentuating the gorgeous lawn and gardens of this private Westlake Village, LA estate, this summertime wedding pops with color. Not just the whimsical chuppah jumps off the page. The couple, their planner A Signature Wedding and florist Emblem Flowers incorporated arrangements featuring unripened green tomatoes, kumquats, blueberry branches, and other edible plants which kept the tables playful yet elegant.

From a spontaneous hora to the intimate ketubah signing in the formal dining room, Arielle and Matt included many Jewish traditions on their wedding day. The yellow kippahs offered as favors to the guests lent an additional pop of color!

Our Love Story

Matt’s sister and my friend teamed up to introduce us at Matt’s birthday party, an outdoor picnic show featuring Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Luckily, they came on stage very late, and for those two or so hours, with his friends surrounding us, Matt and I talked. Ignoring reminders from his sister to “play it cool,” Matt asked me out—that night—on our very first date. We saw a great comedy show!

Matt carefully planned a very detailed proposal at the site of our first introduction, followed by a party with our families. That was “the plan,” but it was the end of March 2020, so everyone knows how this one goes. The plan was changed multiple times on the top-secret engagement group email. Matt had already decided he was proposing to me no matter what and that he would make it special. He told me we were “running an errand to get picnic supplies.” Suddenly, he proposed to me, in front of the fountain at the Beverly Grove Farmer’s Market, a favorite date spot of ours just down the road from our place. Matt hired Erin Marton, who became our wedding photographer, for the proposal. As an extra surprise, Matt’s sister and our brother-in-law showed up on the scene. Due to covid restrictions, the Grove was empty, but it turned into a great proposal spot and it’s lovely to be able to revisit whenever we want.

The Venue

Our goal was to have a unique and intimate wedding. We needed just the right wedding site, and luckily, wonderful longtime friends of Matt’s parents eagerly offered their gorgeous home in Lake Sherwood.

Since our wedding was small (about 60 people), everyone jumped in to help. Matt and I felt such gratitude! We were just so excited to be getting married!

The Dress & Attire

On our wedding style, I found my wedding dress quickly, but true to form, Matt and I went on a marathon shopping spree to find his suit! I loved my dress, but the best part of my outfit was the delicate veil that my Aunt Tammy made for me. We found our inspiration, went to the fabric store and bought yards of tulle. My veil is now our family wedding heirloom!

The Photography

Erin Marton is a seriously talented lady. All of our posed photos are beautiful, and the way she captured unexpected moments of us and our guests is astounding.

Every time I look back at our photos I fall in love with new favorites. We ended up with too many spectacular shots to choose from and had an incredible experience working with her. The photos speak for themselves!

Favorite Moments

After Matt smashed the glass, we walked back down the aisle to “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, from the day we met. Seeing shows together has been a big part of our relationship, and we both love music.

It was incredibly special and fun for everyone to dance together for the first time since a pandemic lull allowed us a little more freedom. I was so excited to dance the hora, and we were swept up in chairs above the crowd.

The Florals & Decor

Our event planner, Monique Atwell of A Signature Wedding, had also organized my sister-in-law’s beautiful wedding one year earlier. Monique was amazing, so eager to run with any idea, and she supported us patiently as we considered various options.

For the décor, it was all about the flowers for me. I wanted to compliment the garden, which was bordered by white roses, surrounding oaks, and one perfect tree that anchored our ceremony spot. Charmain, from Emblem Flowers, blew us away, especially with our chuppah. My friends even caught me glancing up into the tendrils and flowers during the ceremony.

Advice to Other Couples

Absolutely, hire a wedding planner, and make that a larger part of your budget. Even with help, planning a wedding will become a part-time job for you. If you want to create five amazing hours of memories, why not allocate more attention to relieving your stress and saving time for the entire year before the big day? Establish your priorities. Then go with the flow for the rest.

The Honeymoon

We traveled all around Morocco for ten days, including an unforgettable overnight stay in the Sahara Desert, complete with tents and camels. Then we stopped in Barcelona on the way home, spending the last four days of our trip eating octopus, sipping Cava, and admiring Gaudi’s unforgettable, stunning architecture.
